Malt stills returning to Girvan | Print |  E-mail
Monday, 09 April 2007
William Grant & Sons is investing in a new distillery in a move that will see the return of malt distilling to its operations on the southwest coast of Scotland.

The multi-million pound distillery will take nine months to build and it is hoped it will be producing by the end of the year. The plant will be sited next to Grant's grain whisky distillery in Girvan, Ayrshire and will have four wash stills and four spirit stills. The single malt whisky will be used for blending.

The Girvan site also includes a laboratory for new product development. It employs 130 people and produces Grant's whisky and Hendrick's gin. The site previously housed the Ladyburn single malt distillery, which closed in 1975. It is not known how many jobs will be created at the new plant.
