Whisky first for woman distillery manager | Print |  E-mail
Monday, 05 June 2006

The female manager of a Scotch whisky distillery has become the first woman to be voted onto a prestigious industry committee in 132 years. Polly MacDonald, 23, is manager of the Tomatin Distillery near Inverness, and has just been voted onto the management committee of the Malt Distillers Association of Scotland.

She told the Scottish Daily Record: “I suppose I should feel proud. It’s one for the girls.” MacDonald, who supervises the production of more than 2m litres of spirit a year, oversees the Antiquary blended whisky range and Tomatin’s single malt range.  She said she hoped her achievement would pave the way for more women to find success in the traditionally male-dominated industry.
